ION Hotel and Reykjavik

A coastal city with culture at its heart – that’s Reykjavik. The capital and largest city, Reykjavik is located in southwestern Iceland and is the centre of its cultural, economic and governmental activity. Popular with tourists, it’s believed to be the location of the first permanent settlement in Iceland in AD 874. An official trading town since 1785, it has grown over the years and is now known as being one of the greenest cities in the world.

Tailor made with you in mind

Our ION Hotel and Reykjavik short break combines the vibrant culture of this exciting city with adventure as you get to explore the activities that the breath taking southwest has to offer. You’ll start your experience with a two-night stay at the ION Hotel in Thingvellier National Park before spending two nights in Reykjavik.

The contemporary, designer hotel, nestled in the Thingvellir National Park is less than an hour’s drive from bustling Reykjavik and is ideally situated to both explore the city and enjoy the many attractions that the National Park has to offer.

Including flights and car hire, this is an experience you won’t want to pass up:

  • Unwind in the spa after a day’s adventure
  • Gaze at the Northern Lights as you relax in the heated pool
  • Explore the geological sights of Iceland’s Golden Circle
  • Wonder at the impressive Gullfoss Waterfall and geysers of Strokkur
  • Explore the vibrant city of Reykjavik

Day 1: Day 1 - Thingvellir National Park

Your Chariot Awaits

Fly in from London to Iceland’s Keflavik Airport where your hire car will be waiting. As you make your way to the hotel and the Thingvellir National Park, you may want to stop along the way for a dip in the Blue Lagoon.

Once you’ve checked in, why not start your adventure with a relaxing spa treatment or take a dip in the heated pool and gaze up at the Northern Lights dancing above your head. Finish the day with a trip to the restaurant and enjoy a gastronomic delight. Using fresh, locally soured ingredients, the menu is constantly evolving and changes with the seasons.

Day 2: Day 2 - Thingvellir National Park

Top of the list – Adventure!

Make the most of your hire car and enjoy Thingvellir National Park. Iceland’s most historic site, it also boasts one of the most scenic landscapes. Lying in a rift valley caused by the separation of two tectonic plates, it is home to Glymur, the second-highest waterfall in Iceland (a cascade of 198m) and the largest natural lake in Iceland. It is no wonder, then that it is one of the three key attractions within the Golden Circle.

Whilst you’re exploring the Golden Circle, why not take in the Kerio Crater, the mighty Gullfoss Waterfall and the geysers of Strokkur.

Day 3: Day 3 - Reykjavik

The Capital Beckons

After a leisurely morning, or another excursion (if you’re up to it), drive to Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik, for the second part of your adventure. Staying at the Hotel Borg, you’ll have two days to explore this vibrant city.

With the amazing Hallgrimskirkja church, the Art Museum, the atmospheric bars and excellent restaurants, one thing’s for certain – you’re guaranteed to have a packed couple of days.

Day 4: Day 4 - Reykjavik / Departure

We Bid You Farewell

Following a leisurely breakfast, it’s time to say goodbye to Reykjavik as you check out and head to the airport for your return flight home.
