Volcanoes & Ice: Iceland & Greenland

A taste of both the city and an iceberg town – what a contrast! As Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik (literally meaning “Smokey Bay”) is the northernmost capital city of the world. It is home to under 200,000 inhabitants, yet it boasts a plethora of sights and activities that will appeal to everyone. Clearly visible from wherever you are in the city, Hallgrímskirkja Church, stands proud at 74.5m. At the top of the building is a 360° viewing platform giving you views of the entire city and is well worth taking the time to visit.

Ilulissat, with its sprawling icebergs and dramatic landscape is in sharp contrast to Reykjavik. Yet there is more to Ilulissat than you might think. Nicknamed the Gastronome’s Getaway, you can enjoy different cuisine every night of the week. The start of the winter season is the time for dog sledding and there are no less than 3500 sled dogs. Remarkable when you think that there are only 4530 residents!
