Lapland Aurora

The Northern Lights – the greatest light show on earth. Caused by a natural phenomenon, this dazzling performance is guaranteed to thrill. We have designed a bespoke package specifically for Aurora hunters. Karesuando is a remote village 160 miles north of the Arctic Circle, far from the commercialism of mass-market winter resorts and is our base for this week-long trip.

The perfect location for spotting the Northern Lights, our guides will be on hand to lead you to night-time vantage points, guaranteed to give you optimum chances for witnessing the elusive Aurora. You will also have the opportunity to mush your own team of huskies and to visit the nearby village of Hetta. Home to the Sami museum, it provides a fascinating insight into Sami culture.

Hunting the Aurora

Your adventure starts with your flight into Enontekiö Finland. Magnificent fells, frozen lakes and trees drooping with snow, it’s a winter wonderland just waiting to be discovered. But of course, the real aim of the trip is to catch the elusive Aurora Borealis. During your stay you will have the opportunity to go in search of the lights in many ways:

  • Driving out into the night on your own snowmobile
  • Crossing a frozen lake to reach areas with little or no light pollution
  • Taking a guided forest trek to a wilderness viewpoint

There are a number of excursions included in your trip. Our itinerary will give you a few ideas about what you can expect to experience. If you would like to get even more from your trip, we can even organise an overnight stay in Tromso, the capital of the Arctic. Or if you’re feeling adventurous, how about a night under the stars in your very own igloo?

Living in a Harsh Environment

Learn about the Sámi, the native people of Lapland. Situated in the picturesque town of Hetta, the Sámi Museum is dedicated to the Sami people and their culture and gives an insight into how they have lived and survived for 5000 years in this harsh environment.
