Our Favourite Glass Igloos To See The Northern Lights

Getting the chance to see the Northern Lights is a magical experience. One of the best places to see nature’s own dance show is in the Lapland region of Finland. Being situated above the arctic circle means you get the best chance possible for sightings of the Northern Lights. To make a break in Finnish Lapland even more special in the winter, a stay in a glass igloo is a must.  From heated glass igloos to glass-walled treehouses, there’s certainly something magical about being able to absorb the region’s natural wonders from the comfort and privacy of your own room.

These glass igloos are becoming more popular and so we have decided to share our favourite ones with you. It is time to get comfortable and to start planning your holiday of sleeping under the stars.

Levin Iglut

Our favourite part of these igloos is their location. They are in such a remote spot that you will receive the most amazing sights in the sky at night. You will see stars like never before and be surprised how many there are that you cannot see normally plus you get the best chance to go to sleep with the Northern Lights dancing above you. Do not worry about being cold as the modern igloos come with heated glass dome roofs. The area is just as amazing in the daytime with a true winter wonderland scene where you can enjoy reindeer rides, husky dog sledding and even a wilderness cooking lesson.

Arctic Snowhotel and Glass Igloos

It is not just the stars and Northern Lights that create a magical view of the sky here but also the trees from the forest location of the hotel and igloos. We like the fact that the igloos are placed next door to the Arctic Snowhotel. You can also stay a night here in an ice room with sleeping bags and mock furs to keep you warm through the night. You can also just stick with the igloos but make the most of the facilities of the hotel. The best ones are the outdoor jacuzzis and the innovative icewall snow sauna. The restaurant provides yet another stunning view over the lakeside whilst cooking delicious meals from fresh fish to reindeer steak and forest berries before heading to the ice bar for a night cap.

Muotka Wilderness Lodge

This is the most charming out of our favourite igloo accommodations featuring 26 log cabins and glass igloos in a hidden forest spot. Think of lots of cosy fires, timber wood interiors and wooden terraces to enjoy the views.  For nature lovers, here is a paradise with a network of nature trails surround the cabins. The glass bubbles provide the ultimate Scandinavian winter luxury. They have queen-sized beds under glass dome roofs and even come with a private sauna In the daytime, look forward to husky-safari adventures or snowmobiling on the fells before a fireside picnic lunch. Staying here will give you the most romantic break.

Northern Lights Ranch

The cabins here are one of the most innovative in the whole of Finnish Lapland. From your motorised bed, huge, heated windows look out across the snow-dusted forest and the inky black of the Arctic night, and when the Northern Lights are out in force, there are few more magical settings. If you like to go skiing, or want to even give it a try, the cabins are in the perfect spot as they are not far from the resort of Levi. You get all the perfect luxuries including your own hot tub, tv and wi-fi – which will be needed to upload the photos of your amazing adventures and beautiful surroundings onto social media. We adore the restaurant because there is a reindeer enclosure next door where you can see the reindeers whilst eating your dinner.

Arctic Treehouse Hotel

The Arctic Treehouse suites are simply wow in design. They each provide both a romantically snug feel with a fireplace and luxury log cabin feel to them whilst retaining a modern and chic feel design. They have enormous floor-to-ceiling glass windows giving you your own private view of the Northern Lights in comfortable surrounding and in the daytime providing breath taking views overlooking the snow-covered fells. The onsite restaurant has a huge glass wall that affords diners wonderful views of the forest canopy, with local produce and seasonal ingredients such as reindeer meat and fresh lake fish making for a delicious evening. To make the most of a wintry Finnish Lapland, enjoy al fresco private dinners and husky safaris. For something truly special, book yourself a spa treatment at a forest spa on the shores of a lake 20 minutes away.
