Northern Lights Break – Svalbard

Polar night – when the sun doesn’t rise at all. Visiting Svalbard during Polar night when it’s dark and there’s nothing but the Northern Lights dancing overhead, is a completely unique experience. Twinkling stars, moonlight and wisps of light dancing like flames in the sky, accompany you wherever you go. Completely magical, Svalbard is one of the only places where it’s possible to see the Aurora Borealis during the day.

From Dark comes Light

Our short break in Svalbard is the perfect setting for taking in the Northern Lights in all their glory. We’ve also incorporated a selection of exciting Arctic activities.

If you fancy more of an adventurous break, this is an experience you won’t want to pass up:

  • Enjoy panoramic views over Longyearbyen
  • Delight in a Snowcat Safari
  • Relax at a wilderness camp

Day 1: Day 1 - Funken Lodge, Longyearbyen

Luxury Awaits

The biggest settlement on the Svalbard archipelago, Longyearbyen is the northernmost permanently inhabited community in the world. On arrival, the airport bus service will take you to Funken Lodge.
Recently remodelled, this boutique hotel has panoramic views over Longyearbyen. High standard accommodation, it also boasts a well-regarded restaurant, popular with both guests and locals alike.

Day 2: Day 2 - Hunt for the Aurora

The Night Sky

Today is dedicated to evening fun, so we thought we’d leave you to enjoy the day relaxing in Svalbard. Take the opportunity to visit the museum, pay a visit to the world’s northernmost brewery or spoil yourself at the local shops.

Prepare for adventure as you get whisked away from the artificial lights of the town and plunged into the darkness of the Ardent valley, with our 3-hour Northern Lights safari by snowcat. Your senses become heightened as the darkness envelops you and you find yourself being at one with nature. Your guide will be on hand to tell you stories and answer questions, as you hunt for the Aurora Borealis.

Day 3: Day 3 - Wilderness Evening

Tales by The Fireside

A roaring fire, a hearty meal and a fascinating presentation on the polar ‘fireworks’ is on the agenda with our wilderness camp experience on the outskirts of Longyearbyen. Far away from light pollution, the conditions are perfect for viewing one of the greatest natural phenomena in the world, the Northern Lights.

Day 4: Day 4 - Departure

Time to say Goodbye

The airport bus service will take you back to Longyearbyen airport in readiness for your return flight to the UK.
